Northrop wins Army contract worth $2.4B

A joint venture from Northrop Grumman Corp. and Cobham has been awarded a contract from the U.S. Army's Communications and Electronics Command for communications systems.

The indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity has a 10-year period and a top value of $2.8 billion.

Northrop Grumman Cobham Intercoms LLC will manufacture and deliver the VIS-X system, which allows vehicles in battle situations to communicate with each other. It is compatible with current technologies and legacy vehicles.

Under the terms of the deal, NGCI will deliver up to 500 VIS-X systems per month during the first year and up to 2,000 systems per month in subsequent years.

Los Angeles-based Northrop (NYSE: NOC) is one of the world's largest defense and technology firms.
