J. Thomas Sadowski has been named CEO of the Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore.
Formerly executive director of the Harford County Office of Economic Development, Sadowski has been serving as interim CEO of the Economic Alliance since Christian Johansson’s resignation in July.
Economic Alliance chair Laura Gamble broke the news to Sadowski in advance of the organization’s annual meeting Tuesday evening.
“It’s the place where I was born, and raised, and educated. It’s the place where I live,” Sadowski said in a telephone interview of his decision to remain in Baltimore as head of the regional economic development marketing group. ”There’s some wonderfully talented people in this organization.”
Sadowski said the economy has made it tougher to recruit new companies into the region. Greater Baltimore also has a number of strengths and bright spots to sell those firms on, including the relocation of some 25,000 government jobs to the area under a military realignment plan. As CEO, Sadowski said he plans to place emphasis on Baltimore’s growing industries, including health care, biotechnology, information technology and the defense contracting community.
