APT raises $400K

Spring marks fundraising time for two area public media outlets, National Public Radio's WBHM and Alabama Public Television.
APT reported raising $400,000 during its statewide spring membership drive that took place over three weeks in March.
In the middle of a pledge drive, the local NPR station reported raising $75,000 as of Wednesday morning. It continues through the week. So far, the radio station gained 278 new members in the drive.
APT received donations from more than 2,200 new and existing members, said Despina Vodantis, membership director.
"The people of Alabama recognize APT as an outstanding resource and on-air pledges are vital in ensuring that we are able to deliver the programming and services Alabamians want and need," she said in a statement. "We are most grateful for their support."
The top three programs for viewer response during the drive were "Suze Orman - Women and Money," "Elvis Returns - The 25th Anniversary Celebration" and "Doo Wop's Best on PBS."
Donation drives are held in March, June, August and December.
