Birmingham International Airport reported a 9.5 percent drop in passenger traffic in October.

The airport served 27,793 fewer passengers in October for a total of 263,993, compared to the previous October when 291,786 people passed through its gates. Year-to-date, the airport had 1.6 percent fewer passengers.

US Airways reported a 16 percent decrease in passengers in October, despite an increase in three flights since last year. Delta Airlines saw a decrease of 1.3 percent from October 2007.

Southwest experienced an 11.3 percent increase, with five more flights than 2007. Continental also saw an increase of 2 percent.
