Shawmut Design opens Las Vegas office

Boston Business Journal - Boston Business Journal

Shawmut Design and Construction said Tuesday it has opened an office in Las Vegas.

Growth in the restaurant, retail and gaming sectors has driven the Boston company's expansion into other markets, according to William Hughes, Shawmut's president and COO. Shawmut now has offices in six locations, including New York City, Providence, Atlantic City, Las Vegas and a recently-opened office in New Haven, Conn. Shawmut employees more than 800 people.

In Las Vegas, Shawmut is currently working with a variety of clients, including MGM Mirage with numerous projects at their Treasure Island property, and Encore, the new luxury resort at Wynn Las Vegas, which is scheduled to open by the end of 2008.

"Shawmut's presence in this strategic market illustrates not only our continued growth as a top, national construction firm, but more importantly our commitment to focusing on the retail, restaurant and gaming industries," said Hughes, in a statement. "The Las Vegas market presents great opportunities within our focused market areas for a builder who understands how to deliver difficult projects in challenging environments. Our strong presence there reflects the fact that our clients, new and old, appreciate our ability to consistently deliver exceptional, personalized service."
