Cheryl A. LaFleur will join The Steppingstone Foundation as president and CEO this spring.
LaFleur comes to The Steppingstone Foundation from National Grid's U.S. energy distribution business, where she most recently served as executive vice president and acting U.S. CEO. LaFleur began her career as an attorney in Boston, and is a graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Law School.
LaFleur, who will join the foundation April 1, will partner with founder Michael P. Danziger to grow the organization. Since its inception in 1990, Steppingstone has expanded to Philadelphia and Hartford.
Recently, Steppingstone has begun a number of new initiatives aimed at increasing college access for underserved schoolchildren. In late 2006, Steppingstone partnered with the Hartford Youth Scholars Foundation to launch The Steppingstone Academy Hartford in Connecticut, which will graduate its first class of Scholars this summer. In 2007, Steppingstone launched The National Partnership for Educational Access, a collaboration that aims to share best practices among member programs across the country and ensure innovation in the field of college access.
The Steppingstone Foundation develops and implements programs that prepare urban schoolchildren for educational opportunities that lead to college.
