A presidential quiz

New York was supposed to regain its presidential glory in 2008.
Two of the state’s prominent politicians, Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Rudolph Giuliani, started the year as frontrunners for their parties’ nominations. Pundits predicted that the November election would be an all-New York showdown.
So much for that fantasy.
The next occupant of the White House will be Democrat Barack Obama (born in Hawaii, lives in Illinois) or Republican John McCain (born in Panama Canal Zone, lives in Arizona). New York has been shut out once again.
But it wasn’t always this way. New York, once upon a time, truly was the Empire State of presidential politics. And the Buffalo area played a significant role in the state’s dominance.
Here’s a quiz that harkens back to those golden days – 16 questions to test your knowledge of New York’s past presidential successes, with an emphasis on the contributions made by Western New Yorkers.
