Cincinnati among top 10 in relocation ranking
Business Courier of Cincinnati
Cincinnati and Midwestern cities fared well in a ranking of the "2008 Best Cities for Relocating Families," compiled by Worldwide ERC and Primacy Relocation.
The Cincinnati/Middletown metropolitan statistical area placed 10th of 50 large (population 1.3 million and above) metro areas. Pittsburgh ranked first, with Indianapolis/Carmel second, Columbus seventh and Cleveland/Elyria/Mentor 12th.
In the mid-sized metro areas ranking, Dayton ranked 15th of 50, Louisville/Jefferson County was 25th and Toledo was 38th.
The rankings, compiled with the assistance of Bert Sperling of Sperling's BestPlaces, used U.S. Census data to rank metro areas according to housing affordability, ease of commute, educational resources and economic health, as well as population and job growth, number of pediatricians and "green" living.
Some of those criteria, especially housing affordability and commute times, tend to favor Midwestern cities over Sun Belt cities which, with the exception of Texas metro areas, clustered toward the bottom of the ranking.
Primacy is a relocation company headquartered in Memphis, Tenn. Worldwide ERC is a relocation service industry trade group based in Washington, D.C.
