India trip bears fruit for Cincinnati USA Partnership

Business Courier of Cincinnati

The Cincinnati USA Partnership’s October India business mission has encouraged the group to focus future recruitment efforts on the country, according to a e-mail to Partnership investors.

Over the 10-day trip to Mumbai, Bangalore and New Delhi, Partnership representatives attended eight prospect meetings with businesses that plan to invest or expand in North America. Of those, two were considered “warm” leads. They visited eight trade associations and distributed Cincinnati USA materials to 20 additional businesses. They also met with three senior government officials and generated 30 print or Internet news stories.

The trip stemmed from the 2007 decision by Tata Consultancy Services to locate a 1,000-employee information technology center in Milford. Local officials felt that the presence of a major India-based corporation here could help generate more interest from other companies as well.

In meetings with the firm in India, the Partnership confirmed Tata’s interest in expanding further in the Greater Cincinnati region. It also determined that the country would be in its regular rotation of international business attraction missions.

India native Mahendra Vora, chairman and CEO of Ascendum Worldwide; Procter & Gamble Co.; and the University of Cincinnati helped plan the mission.

Vora and Partnership Vice President of Economic Development Doug Moormann will present details of the trip to Partnership investors Dec. 2 at a breakfast at the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza downtown.
