'The Proposal' wins at weekend box office

"The Proposal" from Walt Disney Pictures took the top spot at the weekend box office, according to a report from Box Office Mojo, a Web site that tracks box-office revenues.
The movie starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds brought in an estimated $34,114,000 in its opening weekend. It knocked off the reigning champion, Warner Bros.' "The Hangover," which brought in an estimated $26,855,000 during the weekend.
"The Proposal" was shown on about 4,100 screens at 3,056 sites, according to a report on the site.
Disney/Pixar's "Up" continued its strong showing, coming in third over the weekend with an estimated $21,336,000. The animated film is currently in second place behind Paramount's "Star Trek," for second-largest movie of the summer.
Another new release, Sony Pictures' "Year One," brought in an estimated $20,200,000 in its first weekend, placing it fourth on the list.
Another Sony Pictures release, "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3" rounded out the top five, bringing in an estimated $11,300,000.
