Triangle Business Journal

Interstate drivers, get ready for new signs touting “All-America City” while driving through Kinston and Statesville.

The two cities are among the 10 winners in an annual competition organized by the National Civic League. The winners were announced June 19 in Tampa, Fla.

Other cities chosen for the All-America City slots this year were Phoenix; Albany, N.Y.; Wichita, Kan.; Inglewood, Calif.; Fort Wayne, Ind.; Richmond, Ind.; and Sommerville, Mass.

This is the second win for Statesville in the past 20 years. The city also won in 1997.

In this decade, several North Carolina communities have been given the all-America City honor by the civic league. In 2008, Lenior and Reidsville were named in the group of 10.

Other winners include Clinton and Hickory (2007), Concord (2004), Laurinburg and Wilson (2003), Fayetteville (2001) and Gastonia (2000).
