Exec leaves HECO, joins Sennet Capital

Karl Stahlkopf, Hawaiian Electric Co.'s top technical expert on renewable energy, retired from the utility on Tuesday and on Wednesday was named partner at a Honolulu merchant bank that finances local renewable energy projects.
Stahlkopf has joined Sennet Renewables, a subsidiary of Sennet Capital, which focuses on investing in mid-market companies.
At HECO, Stahlkopf worked as chief technology officer and senior vice president of energy solutions the past seven years.
“As one of the foremost experts in the renewable energy field he will be helping us evaluate and finance Hawaii renewable energy projects for solar, wind, biomass, wave and emerging renewable technologies,” said Larry Gilbert, managing director of Sennet Capital in a statement.
Before joining HECO, Stahlkopf was vice president of power delivery and utilization at the Electric Power Research Institute in Palo Alto, Calif. He also served as director of nuclear safety for the institute.
He holds a bachelor’s degrees in electrical engineering and naval science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a master’s degree and doctorate in nuclear engineering from the University of California-Berkeley.
