Terminal 4 security checkpoint expansion may slow Sky Harbor vehicle traffic
Phoenix Business Journal - by Mike Sunnucks
Construction of new passenger security checkpoints at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is going to cause some traffic delays outside Terminal 4.
The airport is adding checkpoints inside Terminal 4 for "C" gates to create 8 passenger lanes instead of four. The checkpoints are located at the front of a pedestrian bridge in Terminal 4 so some of the construction being done is occurring outside and below the bridge which is being widened by 120 feet.
That will cause some traffic delays, airport officials said.
Checkpoint construction is slated to run until June 2009 with delays mostly for drivers entering the airport from the east.
Large U.S. airports have at times run into long lines at U.S. Transportation Security Administration checkpoints which passengers must pass through before heading to their flights.
