Penn State offering online MBA

Penn State University has joined the ranks of schools that are offering MBA courses online. The online master of business administration, dubbed the iMBA, launched this month.
The "i" actually stands for "Intercollege" since the MBA is a collaboration between Penn State Erie, The Behrend College; Penn State Great Valley, The School of Professional Studies; Penn State Harrisburg; and The Mary Jean and Frank P. Smeal College of Business Administration, Penn State University Park.
John Fizel, professor of economics at Penn State Erie and interim iMBA chair, said the school is tapping into an estimated market of 648,000 people worldwide who are expected to begin work on their MBA degrees through 2005. He said 5 percent of them will earn their degrees online.
The first class will be admitted to the iMBA program in January 2002.
The school surveyed readers of the Economist, an international business magazine, and Penn State alumni to determine interest in such a program. Students will participate in the online learning community of the iMBA CyberForum and engage in discussions with faculty, business leaders and classmates.
