American Eagle Outfitters' sales surge

American Eagle Outfitters Inc. said same-store sales rose 17 percent in January, ahead of last year's 9-percent rise.

The Warrendale, Pa.-based youth clothing retailer (NASDAQ:AEOS), which on Monday said it would seek NYSE trading status, raised its fourth-quarter earnings projection to 66 cents a share from 64-65 cents.

Total sales for the five weeks ended Feb. 3 were $207.1 million, compared to $130 million for the four-week period ended Jan. 28, 2006.
