GSK's weight-loss drug gets approval
Pittsburgh Business Times
GlaxoSmithKline plc's consumer health care unit said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved a 60-milligram capsule form of the weight-loss product Orlistat for over-the-counter use.
Glaxo's North American Consumer Healthcare unit, based in Moon Township, outside Pittsburgh, said it will market orlistat under the brand name Alli.
The pill helps people lose weight by reducing the amount of fat the body absorbs. Alli will cost about $2 a day and be in stores by summer.
Roche AG markets the prescription diet drug Xenical.
