Airport traffic down slightly

A total of 9.9 million passengers passed through Pittsburgh International Airport during 2006, down 4.7 percent from 10.4 million passengers in 2005, the Allegheny County Airport Authority said Friday.
December's numbers were also down slightly compared with a year ago. The airport reported 769,680 total passengers in December 2006, down 0.8 percent from 776,083 in December 2005.
Despite a 17.1 percent drop in passengers, US Airways (NYSE:LCC) led the pack with 5.2 million passengers. The airline had 6.3 million passengers in 2005. Southwest Airlines (NYSE:LUV), which was one of eight airlines showing increased traffic, saw a 99.2 percent increase from 571,666 passengers in 2005 to 1.1 million in 2006. The airline began operations at Pittsburgh International in May 2005.
Another newcomer to Pittsburgh International, JetBlue Airways (NASDAQ:JBLU), reported a total of 128,665 passengers from when it began service on June 30, 2006, through the end of the year.
