Lamar billboard hearing delayed until September

Pittsburgh Business Times - by Ben Semmes

A much-awaited hearing on a Downtown Pittsburgh billboard permit has been delayed until September.

At the request of the attorneys for Lamar Advertising Co., Pittsburgh's Zoning Board of Adjustment Thursday agreed to allow the continuance of the hearing until Sept. 4 at 10 a.m.

The company sought the continuance because some of its witnesses were not available to testify.

The Baton Rouge, La.-based firm is seeking several variances in regard to its application for a 1,098 square-foot, 75-foot tall electronic billboard on the front of the Grant Street Transportation Center Downtown.

Early this year, the original permit process was called into question after the Pittsburgh City Council learned that the billboard had been approved without necessary board review.

Subsequently, Pat Ford, executive director of the Urban Redevelopment Authority, admitted to receiving gifts from a Lamar executive has been place on paid leave pending a review by the state Ethics Commission.
