Pittsburgh Business Times

The first annual award honoring late Carnegie Mellon University computer scientist Randy Pausch will go to Ed Catmull, president of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios.

The Randy Pausch prize is aimed at honoring entertainment industry experts “who embody his interdisciplinary spirit,” according to a release from CMU.

Pausch was co-founder of CMU’s Entertainment Technology Center. The best-selling author of “The Last Lecture,” which he penned as a gift to his three children, Pausch died of pancreatic cancer on July 25.

Four-time Academy Award winner Catmull will receive the award at the International Conference on Entertainment Computing, scheduled for Sept. 26 at CMU. The prize includes a $2,500 cash award.
