Kalmar opens Cibolo factory, hires 200 people

More than 200 jobs will be coming to the San Antonio area next week once defense contractor Kalmar RT Center LLC opens its new manufacturing facility in Cibolo.
Kalmar RT Center opened the facility in order to fulfill a new five-year Department of Defense contract to supply its Rough Terrain Container Handler. Kalmar, which is based in Cibolo, just northeast of San Antonio, expects to build 10 machines per month under the new contract.
The Kalmar Rough Terrain Container Handler has the ability to drive over unimproved roads and rough terrain. The vehicle has hydraulic lifts that allow it to pick up shipping containers weighing as much as 53,000 pounds and can stack them three units high.
Kalmar primarily sells equipment to the U.S. military and its allies. The company was founded in 1999.
