Nordstrom to sell $200K Christmas gifts

Puget Sound Business Journal (Seattle) - by Ben Miller

Following the lead of Neiman Marcus, which has been selling pricey and exotic Christmas gifts for years, Nordstrom Inc. said it will offer four premium Christmas gifts ranging from $15,000 to $200,000.

The $200,000 gift is a custom artwork by artist Ruben Toledo, who will paint a 12-by-20-foot personalized painting that will be professionally installed in your home.

For less, you can opt for a $50,000 photographic session with Sam Jones, who will take your picture. Jones has taken photos of George Clooney, Tom Cruise and Steve Martin.

Also for sale is a custom couch designed by Tory Burch for $15,000 and an armoire designed and stocked by Juicy Couture, also for $15,000.

“For the right customer, these may be the perfect gift,” said Pete Nordstrom, full-line store president of merchandising for Seattle-based Nordstrom (NYSE: JWN), in a statement.

The tony Neiman Marcus retailer has been offering exotic and expensive gifts in its Christmas catalog since 1959. This year, for sale are: a carbon fiber, titanium and aluminum motorcycle for $110,000; the actual end zone of the Dallas Cowboys’ field at Texas Stadium in Irving for $500,000 (the Cowboys are moving to a new home next year); and life-size his-and-hers statues made from Lego bricks by artist Nathan Sawaya for $60,000. Past Neiman Marcus Christmas Book gifts included a $35 million Boeing Business Jet, a $20 million submarine, and naming rights to a Boeing 777 airplane ($177,732).
