Illinois has awarded Centene Corp. and Aetna Inc. five-year contracts totaling $450 million a year to provide medical care services to 40,000 seniors and adults with disabilities in six Chicago-area counties. Centene, led by Chairman and CEO Michael Neidorff, also has won a deal to provide health insurance plans for small businesses under a public-private program in Texas. Full Story

AT&T spends $225M on network

AT&T, led locally by Nancy Garvey, AT&T’s vice president and general manager in the Greater Midwest Region, invested nearly $225 million in its Missouri wireless and wireline networks, including $75 million in the wireless network, in the first half of 2010. Full Story

Nestlé buys Waggin' Train snacks

Nestlé said Friday it plans to buy the Waggin’ Train dog snacks business, hoping to tap into the fast-growing, real-meat dog treat segment. Waggin’ Train, which makes snacks with chicken, duck, turkey or beef as the No. 1 ingredient, had sales of around $200 million for the year ending June 2010. Full Story
