Starbucks, Ben & Jerry's, Krispy Kreme offer voters goodies

St. Louis Business Journal

Coffee, doughnuts and ice cream are being offered up in election day giveaways by Starbucks Coffee, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and Ben & Jerry's Homemade Holdings.

Seattle-based Starbucks (NASDAQ: SBUX) said it is giving away a free 12-ounce cup of coffee to anyone who votes, an offer that proved popular around St. Louis.

About 300 voters took advantage of the giveway at the Starbuck's in the Central West End by 3:30 p.m., said Rodger Trietley, a barista. "I'm staring at a line of them now," he said. "I've been here since 12 and it hasn't let up. It's been super-busy."

North Carolina-based Krispy Kreme (NYSE: KKD) is giving away star-shaped doughnuts, and Vermont-based Ben & Jerry's is offering free scoops of its ice cream on Tuesday. But, those companies do not require people to say they voted in order to get their treats.

All customers at Ben & Jerry's between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Tuesday will be given free scoops.

Krispy Kreme asks that customers at its 85 company-owned stores mention its promotion to get their free doughnut. Some of its 145 franchisees are also participating.
