Yahoo, NFL players union settle suit

Silicon Valley / San Jose Business Journal

A settlement was announced Tuesday between Yahoo Inc. and the National Football League's players union in a lawsuit over the Internet company's fantasy league.

The Sunnyvale-based company last month launched a pre-emptive suit seeking to bar the union from seeking royalties for using players' data on its fantasy league game.

A licensing agreement between Yahoo (NASDAQ:YHOO) and the players' union expired on March 1. The company then notified the union it wouldn't renew because a court had ruled that another fantasy football league provider did not need licenses.

Terms of this week's settlement weren't disclosed.

"We continue to explore additional opportunities to work together," Andrew Feffer, chief operating officer of NFL Players, said in a statement.
