Tampa Bay Business Journal

Arthur Chapnik, the father-in-law of former Utek Corp. chief executive officer Clifford Gross and an outgoing member of the Utek board of directors, died July 8.

Utek, a technology transfer company based in Tampa, announced Chapnik’s death in a filing Friday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Chapnik had served on the board for the last 11 years but chose not to seek re-election upon his term expiring July 16, at the same time Gross, who was replaced by new chief executive Douglas Schaedler, also chose not to remain on the board.

Chapnik, who was 67 according to Forbes, was the president of Harrison McJade & Co., an apparel design and marketing company. He had been president of Samsung USA’s women’s apparel division from 1998 to 1990.

Utek said it will replace Chapnik on the board “in the coming months,” according to the filing.
