Golf Galaxy to shutter HQ; CEO leaves

Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal - by Carissa Wyant Staff Writer

Golf Galaxy will shutter its Eden Prairie headquarters, according to a company spokesman.

The measure comes about two years after Golf Galaxy was bought by Dick's Sporting Goods Inc. Findlay Township, Penn.-based sporting goods retailer (NYSE: DKS).

Golf Galaxy co-founder and CEO Randy Zanatta will leave his post July 18, according to a filing with the SEC. The measure will also affect several dozen jobs in Minnesota.

Employees were told of the corporate decision two weeks ago.

The Golf Galaxy business had not performing up to expectations, company officials said, and Golf Galaxy management approached Dick's management with the idea to close the Minnesota office. The company plans to integrate all functions of the business into its Pennsylvania headquarters over the next few months. It offered no details on how many employees will be offered transfers.

The company plans to offer Golf Galaxy employees being let go severance packages and incentives to remain at the headquarters until the office closes. No date for the official closing has been announced.
